Surely, we have been witnesses, in the last few years, to the greatest scientific breakthrough regarding the olive tree and olive oil yet known. Proof of this is the increase in Papers and Reports presented at the 10th Scientific and Technical Symposium of the present edition of EXPOLIVA 2001, the International Fair of Olive Oil and Related Industries.

      The increasing exchange of information happening in the whole of the economy has also affected the olive-oil sector. The available Technology and scientific information are currently found in abundance, and we must take these as our starting point for the improvement of olive production and the olive-oil industry as a whole.

       Even when the incorporation of this common heritage into daily life has meant an important advance for the sector’s improvement, in spite of this, the access and transferral of information requires a special effort to make it reach the end beneficiaries.

      The prime objective of this 10th EXPOLIVA 2001 International Scientific and Technical Symposium is to make scientific production conversion possible and to turn technological innovation into directly applicable knowledge for the olive-oil sector.
